Description
This teak wood sun lounger with footrest is a reinterpretation of a very famous chair originally designed in 1903 by Thomas Lee during his vacation in Westport, New York, for his summer home.
In this way, he tested the first model, quite different from the current one: initially, it consisted of eleven wooden elements cut from the same board and featured wide armrests, which later became a characteristic trait of the chair. The chair was then called the “Westport Plank Chair” because Lee showed the design to Westport carpenter Harry Brunnel, who immediately recognized how well it suited the needs of both summer and winter vacationers at the resort. Apparently, without Lee’s knowledge, he registered the design in 1905 and produced it, enjoying great popularity for the next twenty years. The chair was so iconic in the American region at the turn of the century that it was also known as the Muskoka chair, after the popular recreational area north of Toronto.
The model offered by “Il Giardino di Legno” features a rounded backrest and inclined backrest and seat, making it suitable both as a chair—as originally intended, with wide armrests to support drinks and objects (so placing it next to a table becomes unnecessary!)—and as a sun lounger, by placing it next to the supplied footrest, completing the design both aesthetically and functionally.
Il Giardino di Legno combines beautiful designs with high-quality raw materials. It is the synonym of an Italian brand specializing in creating exclusive garden and terrace furniture and accessories.
Imagine furnishing both outdoor and indoor gardens as social spaces tailored to your needs, using not only all kinds of wonderful furniture but also a wide selection of materials, colors, and combinations. The Il Giardino di Legno collections will make you dream of an open space created with attention, quality, design, and tradition, which can be arranged with pleasure and then lived in with style.
Garden is about relaxation, enjoyment, and cleansing; it’s about freedom and peace, joy and friendship—a space to be designed with elegance but also functionality, autonomy, originality, and above all, quality and freedom of choice.
Product quality and customer service are the hallmarks of Il Giardino di Legno. Two prerogatives for which the skills and passion of stakeholders and an extremely flexible manufacturing organization are fundamental, capable of efficiently responding to both stock and custom production, allowing customers to create their ideal exclusive garden furniture.
Current high-quality garden furniture is a complex product unmatched by indoor furniture. For this reason, the production phase, including material selection, is the culmination of the company's activities. To achieve high-quality products, only the best available materials and processes are used, with each phase following specific procedures and quality control stages.
Solid wood
Boards obtained from sawed trunks are dried and then transformed into components using Milling Machines, Routers, Dowel Jigs, Cutters, and Sanders. The parts are then assembled using mortise and tenon joints and glued with epoxy adhesives and steel screws, then covered with wooden plugs.
Metal
Metal rods are cut, bent manually or with CNC, then welded and assembled, smoothed, and cleaned. Products requiring painting are then sent to the finishing department.
Fabrics
Metal or wooden rods are hand-woven according to the desired pattern, at this stage only artisan experience guarantees the final product.
Thermoplastic material
Polyethylene granules are fed into a system that, once the necessary mold is installed, creates the desired shape through a heating and cooling cycle, in neutral or mass-colored options.
Painting
Products requiring painting are processed in a facility equipped with powder coating and water-based painting lines.
Stuffed
All fabrics are cut and sewn to measure using the finest threads and accessories. Foam rubber of various densities and types is cut from sheets of standard sizes and optionally reassembled to create complex shapes, then covered with protective fabric and joined with fabric.
Assembly and Packaging
Each product is carefully packed to ensure it arrives in perfect condition to its new owner!
After-sales Service
Even after years of happy use, brand customers can order spare parts and cushions for products that are no longer in production.
