Description

Map of Italy by Augustus Petermann from 1875. The map in question is the sixth edition of the Stieler World and Universe Atlas, published by Justus Perthes from Gotha under the editorship of Augustus Petermann, Hermann Berghaus, and Carl Vogel. The map depicts political and administrative boundaries, cities, roads, railways, canals, rivers, lakes, and mountains. It also shows European possessions and exploration routes. Colorful borders and frames contain three inserts referencing Rome and its surroundings, Turin, and Mount Etna. An extremely detailed work, preserved in excellent condition and framed in a modern frame.

Beautiful antique furniture and accessories can be an excellent idea for interior decoration. Today, there is an increasing number of enthusiasts of high-quality vintage products that have a distinct character and soul. This is a nod to history, craftsmanship, and the creation of traditional and timeless furniture. There are many different styles in antique furniture, each with its characteristic features.

Many styles distinguish antique furniture, but a few are particularly prominent. Eclectic furniture refers to the 19th century, marked by the beloved Biedermeier style. Its early variations include neo-Gothic, Gothic, Rococo, Louis Philippe style, and finally the Victorian style. By the end of the century, these styles evolved into pseudo-classicism, Renaissance, and Baroque styles.

Beautiful Empire-style furniture dates from the late 18th to early 19th century. It originated during Napoleon’s reign, characterized by significant similarities and references to Roman and Greek ornamentation.

Neoclassical furniture, associated with Louis XVI, also strongly references ancient architecture. Noteworthy are antique products in Rococo and Louis XV styles. The next style is Baroque, derived from the Portuguese word 'barocco'—meaning an irregularly developed pearl. Baroque furniture was highly ornate, designed to shine with splendor and play a significant role in luxury. Materials were chosen selectively to emphasize the grandeur of these pieces.

Today, we can observe how much influence the Baroque style has had on modern classical furniture, which is often designed with a strong resemblance to the historical period. The Renaissance style is also significant, flourishing in the 15th and 16th centuries and leaving a lasting mark on furniture design. Renaissance furniture was quite heavy and robust, using dark stains, moldings, sturdy bases, and reliefs. These products were quite distinctive but also opened new possibilities, such as the construction of cabinets and broadly defined chest furniture. Mythology and ancient times also inspired these designs, with supports and legs often taking animal forms.

Lion paws, eagle heads—these are common motifs in Renaissance style. Currently, many global brands reproduce furniture inspired by Italian and French craftsmen, demonstrating admiration and respect for the history of the most beautiful Renaissance antiques. It’s important to remember that furniture production was perceived differently in each country, giving each style a unique character. This is especially crucial when searching for luxurious antiques suited to your interior.

The most important aspect of stylish antique furniture is originality. Ultimately, this matters most to buyers, as the market is flooded with counterfeits. Luxury Products provides documentation confirming the authenticity of each item, matching the description and photos. We also have appraisers, art experts, historians, and specialists from around the world at your disposal.
