Description

Ancient foldable round walnut table from the 19th century, originating from a Lombard residence. The top consists of two large planks with small joints; the lower band is covered with walnut veneer and features a small circular frame outlining the bottom edge. Four legs are made of beech with several small holes for woodworms in the lower sections. The furniture has been treated with woodworm preservative, cleaned, and cold-waxed; due to its good condition, no renovation was undertaken, leaving the original patina intact. The tabletop can be opened in the middle and is designed to accommodate a 60 cm extension. A new construction will be added.

Wonderful antique furniture and accessories can be an excellent idea for interior decoration. Currently, there is a growing number of enthusiasts of high-quality vintage products that possess a distinct character and soul. This is a nod to history, craftsmanship, and the creation of classic and timeless furniture. There are many different styles in antique furniture, each with its own distinctive features.

Many styles characterize antique furniture, but a few key ones stand out. Eclectic furniture refers to the 19th century, during which the Biedermeier style was predominant. Its early variations include neo-Gothic, Gothic, Rococo, Louis-Philippe style, and finally the English Victorian style. By the end of the century, these styles evolved into pseudo-classicism, Renaissance, and Baroque styles.

Empire-style furniture and accessories date from the period between the late 18th and early 19th centuries. This style was influenced by Napoleon’s reign, emphasizing grandeur and referencing Roman and Greek decorative motifs.

Neoclassical furniture, associated with Louis XVI, also draws heavily from ancient architecture. Noteworthy are antique products in Rococo and Louis XV styles. Baroque, whose name derives from the Portuguese 'barocco'—meaning an irregularly shaped pearl—was characterized by highly ornate and luxurious furniture meant to impress with splendor. Materials were selectively chosen to emphasize the opulence of these pieces.

Today, we can observe how the Baroque style has significantly influenced modern classic furniture, which often mirrors the grandeur of the past. The Renaissance style, flourishing in the 15th and 16th centuries, also left a profound mark on furniture design. Renaissance furniture was quite heavy and robust, featuring brown stains, cornices, strong bases, and relief decorations. These products were quite distinctive but also introduced new possibilities, such as the construction of credenzas and broadly defined chest furniture. Mythology and ancient themes were also popular, with supports and legs often taking animal forms.

Lion paws and eagle heads are common motifs in Renaissance-style furniture. Many global brands now reproduce such pieces, inspired by Italian and French artisans, as a tribute to the beauty and history of Renaissance antiques. It’s important to remember that each country had its own approach to furniture making, giving each style a unique character. This is especially relevant when seeking an elegant antique that suits your interior.

The most important aspect of elite antique furniture is originality. This is ultimately crucial for buyers, as the market is flooded with fakes. Luxury Products provides documentation confirming the authenticity of each item, matching the description and photographs. We have access to art appraisers, historians, and experts from around the world to assist you.
