19th-century Italian gilded bronze lantern in rocaille style with glasses decorated with lambrequins

Exquisite antique Italian lantern, cast from bronze, a hall lantern with remarkable original mercury gilding, originating from the third quarter of the 19th century.

Italian origin, designed for gas lighting, executed around 1870, featuring a carved, swirling floral Rocaille motif and topped with a floral rose.

This charming lantern consists of four matte cups adorned with decorative lambrequin motifs in ruby red and yellow ochre shades.

Modified, operational according to Italian standards with one Edison 27 bulb, it is in good condition for its age, showing signs of wear and use.

Exclusive antique furniture and accessories can be an excellent idea for interior decoration. Today, there is a growing number of enthusiasts of high-quality vintage items that possess a distinct character and soul. It’s a nod to history, craftsmanship, and the creation of classic and timeless furniture. There are many different styles in antique furniture, each with its own distinctive features.

Many styles characterize antique furniture, but a few are particularly prominent. Eclectic furniture from the 19th century often reflects the popular Biedermeier style. Early in the century, this includes neo-Gothic, Gothic, Rococo, Louis Philippe style, and finally the English Victorian style. Toward the end of the century, these styles evolved into pseudo-classicism, Renaissance, and Baroque styles.

Empire-style furniture dates from the late 18th to early 19th century, inspired by Napoleon’s reign. It features significant similarities and references to Roman and Greek ornamentation.

Neoclassical furniture, associated with Louis XVI, also draws heavily from ancient architecture. Noteworthy are antique pieces in Rococo and Louis XV styles. The Baroque style, derived from the Portuguese word 'barocco'—meaning irregularly developed pearl—was characterized by highly ornate, luxurious furniture designed to dazzle and serve as a statement of opulence. Materials were selectively used to emphasize the grandeur of these pieces.

Today, we can observe how much influence the Baroque style has had on modern classical furniture, which is often designed with a strong resemblance to the historical period. The Renaissance style, flourishing in the 15th and 16th centuries, also left a significant mark on furniture design. Renaissance furniture was quite heavy and massive, often using brown stains, moldings, sturdy bases, and relief decorations. These pieces were quite distinctive but also opened new possibilities, such as the construction of credenzas and broadly defined chest furniture. Mythology and ancient themes were also popular, influencing the forms of supports and legs, which often took animal shapes.

Lion paws and eagle heads are common motifs in Renaissance-style furniture. Currently, many global companies reproduce such furniture, inspired by Italian and French artisans. This reflects admiration and respect for the history of the most beautiful Renaissance antiques. It’s important to remember that each country had its own approach to furniture making, giving each style a unique character. This is especially crucial when searching for an exclusive antique that suits your interior.

The key aspect of original antique furniture is authenticity. Ultimately, this is what matters most to buyers, as the market is flooded with counterfeits. Luxury Products provides documentation confirming the product’s authenticity and correspondence with the description and photos. We also have access to art appraisers, historians, and experts from around the world.
