Description

Para Empire vases in ivory and gold, 1800s, with two handles, palm vases, crafted from carved wood with botanical motifs in Empire style, decorated with ivory-colored lacquer and noble gold. The round vases rest on a square base adorned with geometric grooves, which were added later to the original vase.

Like most altar furnishings, the back of the vases is unadorned. Originally placed on the side altar against the wall, they could only be viewed from the front by the faithful, not from behind. The overall condition is good, with signs of wear consistent with dating to the early 19th century. One handle has been restored. They can serve as stunning bases for antique Empire-style lamps.

Exceptional antique furniture and accessories can be an excellent idea for interior decoration. Today, there is an increasing number of enthusiasts of high-quality vintage items that possess a specific character and soul. This is a nod to history, craftsmanship, and the design of {traditional|classic} and timeless furniture. There are many different styles in antique furniture, each with its distinctive features.

Many styles characterize antique furniture, but a few key ones stand out. Eclectic furniture from the 19th century, including the beloved Biedermeier style. Its early 19th-century variants include neo-Gothic, Gothic, Rococo, Louis Philippe style, and finally the English Victorian style. Toward the end of the century, these styles transitioned into pseudo styles of classicism, Renaissance, and Baroque.

Beautiful Empire-style furniture dates from the late 18th to early 19th century. It originated during Napoleon’s reign, which imposed a significant resemblance and references to Roman and Greek ornamentation.

Neoclassical furniture reflects the Louis XVI style, which also strongly references ancient architecture. Noteworthy are antique products in Rococo and Louis XV styles. Next is Baroque, derived from the Portuguese word barocco—meaning an irregularly developed pearl. These were highly decorative pieces meant to radiate brilliance and play a significant role in luxury. Unique, selectively used materials were employed to emphasize the grandeur of these items.

Today, we can observe how much the Baroque style influenced modern classical furniture, which is designed with a strong resemblance to the historical period. An important style is also Renaissance, which flourished in the 15th and 16th centuries and left a significant mark on furniture-making art. Renaissance furniture was quite heavy and robust, often using brown stains, cornices, strong bases, and reliefs. These products were quite distinctive but also opened new possibilities, such as the construction of credenzas and broadly speaking, chest furniture. Mythology and ancient times also inspired these designs, with supports and legs taking animal forms.

Lion’s paws, eagle heads—these are common motifs in Renaissance style. Today, many global brands recreate such furniture inspired by Italian and French artisans. This reflects admiration and respect for the history of the most beautiful Renaissance antiques. It’s important to remember that furniture production was perceived differently in each country, giving each style a unique character. This is especially important when searching for a luxurious antique that suits your interior.

The key to stylish antique furniture is originality. Ultimately, this matters most to buyers, as the market is flooded with counterfeits.
